Artist StatementI strive to bring together the beauty of the traditional and seamlessly infuse it with the underlying chaos of modern thought.
Through my art, I believe it vital that I tell a story that is easily comprehended. There is an unwritten narrative of understanding to everything I do; I compose my work so the viewer can immediately grasp meaning in it. I build an emotional, intellectual, and conceptual impact that resonates within the viewer and pulls them into my world. I guide the viewer to intended meaning and direct what the viewer sees.
I am interested in building an innovative, sometimes traditional, serene and always hybrid world, but certainly never artificial. I believe in a fully digital workflow because sometimes my work demands that changes be made. Manipulation puts me in full control of choosing what I want viewers to see and what not to see.
My work flows towards the clean and the simple. There is frequently a single point of focus and fewer "edges" so the image extends beyond its physical borders. My work has been described as "marginally inhabited, distinctly abandoned, and devoid of boundaries." The absence of human form in decidedly populated environments lets me focus the viewer's eye on that void. I have moved to the use of single images and a vibrant, but more natural color palette. Each work is a harmonious whole.
